HAVE you ever enjoyed a handbag a lot you just wished to climb up inside it (or perhaps sell your flat and live there so you could validate the expenditure)? Well, last night, designer Jas Sehmbi – of bag label Jas MB – unveiled his record-breaking World’s Largest Bag setup throughout a worldwide road-show at Saatchi and Saatchi, and asked VOGUE.COM that its production wasn’t all fun.
“Logistically the biggest hurdle was really attempting to hold the bag whilst it was being stitched,” Sehmbi disclosed of the piece, which measures even more than 2 metres high and four metres long. “It took 4 people three days to sew together. There were over 150 different pieces of leather and the scale made it near impossible. When the last stitch came out best, with no need to unpick, I was thrilled!”.
The bag is lined in white canvas and last night visitors – including Jade Parfitt and Jameela Jamil – scribbled in the lining of the gigantic bag, which will now start world-wide road-show; gathering tales and art from individuals as it goes.
“The bag was produced to gather ideas, notes and illustrations from individuals around the world,” Sehmbi included at the launch. “Without these people there would be no need to create my products.”.
